Fight for What’s Right

Maybe you love going to school. Or maybe you can’t wait for it to be over. But imagine not being allowed to learn at all, just because you’re a girl. That’s what happened to Malala Yousafzai, a young Pakistani girl who was banned from having an education just because of her gender.

Would you sit back and allow someone to tell you that you can’t go to school? Well, Malala didn’t. Putting herself in serious danger, she took a stand and spoke up against the ban on education, and became a role model to girls everywhere who are not allowed to go to school. After getting recognized around the world, she was shot by the Taliban for speaking out; but she survived and was determined not to give up. She is one brave girl!

Did you know that worldwide, more than 72 million children of primary education age are not in school and 759 million adults are illiterate?

Malala continues to spread awareness of the importance of education around the world and tries to have those numbers reduced. She is currently a female rights activist, fighting for girls everywhere to have the equal right to an education.

In 2014, she became the youngest person to ever receive a Nobel Peace prize for her work in promoting young people’s rights. The UN declared July 12, her birthday, as World Malala Day, to spread awareness of Girls’ Rights to Education.

“I tell my story, not because it is unique, but because it is not. It’s the story of many girls,” says Malala.
