Bees are those buzzing, flying creatures that make delicious honey, but we usually avoid them so they don’t hurt us. Do you know where we would be without those little honey-making, stinging insects?
You may be surprised to know that it takes more than good soil, lots of clean water and sunshine to make the world green. At least 30% of the world’s crops and 90% of all plants require cross-pollination to spread and grow and for this important job, bees are our most important pollinators. They are important to the food chain and protecting the environment, but unfortunately, bee populations around the world are in decline.
We may lose all the plants that bees pollinate, all of the animals that eat those plants and all the way up to the top of the food chain. Our world without bees means that our supermarkets would only have half the amount of fruit and vegetables.
The good news is there are ways we can help the bee population grow and stay healthy so they can do their important work. Planting a bee friendly garden will lead to beautiful plants and flowers, as well as making sure that bees continue to play their important role in our ecosystem.
