5 Top Places to See in Cape Town

Background

A trip to South Africa (SA) wouldn’t be complete without spending time in the beautiful city of Cape Town (CT). Cape Town might be the oldest city in SA but it has so many things to offer, old and new.  CT even won the fifth spot as the most ‘Instagrammable’ country in the world! So after spending two months in SA, these are my top 5 places to visit in and around CT:

Table Mountain – Hike to the top or ride the cable car. Either way, you’ve got to get to the top of this huge flat-topped mountain with great views of Cape Town.

Mojo Market – A fun 7-day-a-week food and lifestyle market in Sea Point, CT. You can find there any type of food you can think of, live music, sport screenings and artisan retail stores.

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden – A cultivated garden and a nature reserve, with collections of Southern African plants, including many rare and endangered species. This is one of the seven most magnificent botanical gardens in the world! You can go there for a hike, a picnic or just to stroll around and enjoy nature.

Robben Island – A beautiful national South African heritage site to which you have to sail to in order to reach it. Until 1996, Robben Island was used for isolating prisoners, but after its closure, it became a museum. It mainly tells the inspirational story of Nelson Mandela, a Nobel Laureate (prizewinner) and former President of SA.

Cape Malays Bo-Kaap – An area once known as the Malay Quarter, this is a historical center of Cape Malay culture in Cape Town and the area is a multicultural neighborhood. In Bo-Kaap you can find beautiful colored houses and cobble-stoned streets. The moment you get there, you will take your phone out for the best urban (city) pictures you can ever imagine.

So from which place in Cape Town would you like to take your next Instagram photo?

An interview with Assaf about building houses from mud Say hello to Assaf, a young man who gets paid for playing with mud all day long. Yes, this is the same mud you step in on a rainy day, which sticks to your shoes and dirties your house. Instead of dirtying houses with mud, Assaf builds houses from mud! But how do you turn that mud to a house? Assaf […]
